1.    Do the new assignments for the UCF football coaching staff make sense?

Orlando Sentinel - Do the new assignments for the UCF football coaching staff make sense. by posted by Iliana Limn on Jan 5, 2009 4:38:54 PM Sentinel columnist Jerry Greene raises an interesting point in his blog entry about the coaching staff changes at UCF. George Godsey is moving from quarterbacks coach to running backs coach, Tim Salem is moving from offensive coordinator and running backs coach to special teams coordinator and tight ends coach, Brent Key is moving from special teams and tight ends coach to offensive line coach. I previously covered the University of New Mexico. Dan Dodd, New Mexico's offensive coordinator at the time, is a very nice man who was absolutely hated by most of the fans because the team was struggling to move the ball. It didn't help Dodd that head coach Rocky Long was a former New Mexico quarterback loved and respected in the community. So how did New Mexico fare after going through a shake up that's just about identical to the one going on at UCF this offseason.

Greene joins several readers a little confused by the new coaching assignments for the assistants UCF Coach George O'Leary opted to keep on staff. George Godsey is moving from qua Read More »

5.    Borges said to be Aztecs' new offensive coordinator

A source close to San Diego State's football program said Wednesday that Al Borges has been hired by new coach Brady Hoke as the team's offensive coordinator. Borges, 53, most recently served as the offensive coordinator at Auburn, where he resigned following the regular season last year. Borges, a native of Salinas, is currently living in Alabama where his wife, Nikki, serves as associate athletic director for marketing and communications at Auburn. Borges, once described by former Auburn head coach Pat Dye as one of the best offensive coordinators Ive ever seen, has been an offensive coordinator at seven different schools, including Oregon, UCLA and Cal. During his time at UCLA (1996-2000), the Bruins averaged 31.9 points per game. UCLA averaged 40.7 points in 1997 and 40.5 in 1998. The source also indicated that Hoke's hiring of former New Mexico head coach Rocky Long as defensive coordinator could be imminent.

13.    You Done Good Pt. II

div id="header" class="pub"> Today Coach Mike Locksley was introduced to New Mexico fans, boosters, and the dreaded media. Coach Lox, didn't survive, he thrived. Also, some Red Menace Radio with Coach Lox and Paul Krebs. So today with the band, many of the Lobo football team, the band, media, boosters, and fans were officially introduced to Coach Mike Locksley aka Coach Lox today. I went in wanting to hear what Coach Lox had to say and I must say that I was very impressed Im not going to relay the whole presser as Im sure it is on golobos.com or The Mtns website, but there were some things that I came away highly impressed with. First and foremost, the part about UNM players, fan, and community being part of the Lox Family. Now obviously, a new coach isnt going to come to town, have a big press conference, and say Well I dont know how good, Im going to be, or if we can win, or recruiting is impossible, or Im not really down with my players This is after all a press conference where Coach Locksley is going to try and pump up the community.

17.    Column: Looking at the current state of college football

New Mexico Daily Lobo - The Independent Voice of the University of New Mexico since 1895 The Independent Voice of the University of New Mexico since 1895 Column: Looking at the current state of college football What have I learned since the beginning of the holiday season?Well, first off, never tuck a gun into your sweatpants, especially if it is registered in one state and you're carrying it loaded in another state and walking down steps in a nightclub. It just doesn't work out. Well, not yet, but certainly in the realm of college football. In the Big 12 South, Texas beat Oklahoma; Texas Tech beat Texas; and finally Oklahoma beat Texas Tech. Magically, Oklahoma played in the Big 12 Championship game and easily defeated Missouri for the second straight year. After Saturday, most people, including myself, believed with 99.9 percent certainty that Florida would face Oklahoma. And on Sunday, that notion was realized - Florida and Oklahoma will indeed play for the National Championship. But just thinking how confounding the BCS is makes me queasy. I can't even tell you who beat the Buckeyes.I also have some Christmas wishes - one of which has already come true: My mom asked me what I wanted for Christmas the other day, and the only thing that came to mind was an 0-16 Detroit Lions team.I should ask Matt Millen to dress up as Santa Claus for a department Christmas party.I feel really - and I mean really - bad for Lions' fans.
